*This table includes only Teachers defined as "188-Day" teachers.

No representation is made as to what these numbers indicate.  Our Board of Education has made it clear that they wish the Hoover school system to be the "employer of choice", and the HSCIN is beginning to track employment changes in our schools to determine if we are meeting that stated goal.  This table serves as a baseline indicator.

Two Hoover Teachers Among Top in Nation - posted 05/18/07

Alabama Teachers of the Year

Out of 130 school districts in Alabama, it is an honor to consider that our teachers have placed at this level seven out of nineteen years.  The alternate teacher of the year is the first runner-up from the opposing division in the competition.  For example, if a secondary teacher is selected as Teacher of the Year, then the highest ranking elementary teacher would be selected as the Alternate Teacher of the Year.

Pamela Harman 2007 Spain Park High School State Teacher of the Year
Cameron McKinley 2006 Riverchase Elementary State Teacher of the Year
Tammy Rickard Dunn 2004 Spain Park High School State Teacher of the Year
Tami Puchta 2000 Trace Crossings Elementary Alternate State Teacher of the Year
Tonya Perry 2000 Berry Middle School State Teacher of the Year
Ann Dominick 1999 South Shades Crest Elementary State Teacher of the Year
Deborah Camp 1998 Berry Middle School Alternate State Teacher of the Year
Robin Litaker 1996 Trace Crossings Elementary State Teacher of the Year

National Board Certified Teachers

Fifty-nine of Hoover City Schools' teachers have obtained National Board Certification.

The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards was established to create a rigorous voluntary certification process for experienced teachers.  The hallmark of the NBPTS process is a demanding process that guides teachers to shift towards practices that focus more on authentic learning.  The cost to apply for National Board Certification can be several thousand dollars, but limited scholarships are available from the state each year.  National Board Certified Teachers in Alabama are rewarded with an extra $5,000 in their salary each year.

The table shows where these teachers currently are teaching:

Central Office 1
Hoover High School 7
Spain Park High School 5
Berry Middle School 2
Bumpus Middle School 5
Simmons Middle School 6
Bluff Park Elementary 5.5
