Our Board of Education has made it clear that they wish the Hoover school system to be the "employer of choice", and the HSCIN is beginning to track employment changes in our schools to determine if we are meeting that stated goal. This table serves as a baseline indicator. Two Hoover Teachers Among Top in Nation - posted 05/18/07 Alabama Teachers of the Year Out of 130 school districts in Alabama, it is an honor to consider that our teachers have placed at this level seven out of nineteen years. The alternate teacher of the year is the first runner-up from the opposing division in the competition. For example, if a secondary teacher is selected as Teacher of the Year, then the highest ranking elementary teacher would be selected as the Alternate Teacher of the Year.

National Board Certified Teachers Fifty-nine of Hoover City Schools' teachers have obtained National Board Certification. The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards was established to create a rigorous voluntary certification process for experienced teachers. The hallmark of the NBPTS process is a demanding process that guides teachers to shift towards practices that focus more on authentic learning. The cost to apply for National Board Certification can be several thousand dollars, but limited scholarships are available from the state each year. National Board Certified Teachers in Alabama are rewarded with an extra $5,000 in their salary each year. The table shows where these teachers currently are teaching:
