Discover! and Did You Know?

This page is devoted to helping you with issues you may have with something going on in your child's school and to letting you know some facts you may not have known.

You may submit questions via e-mail to Discover@HSCIN.org  Varying members of the Steering Committee will review your question or problem and attempt to help you find a path to resolution.  We will answer as many questions as possible each week.  Responses will be archived on this site.

Check out the Parent Resources page for help as well.  There is a brief article entitled "The Steps to Resolving a School Problem" that may provide a starting point for your family.

You can learn a new language for FREE?  Jefferson County libraries are now offering free access to the Rosetta Stone language learning program.  All you need is a library card.

Hoover City Schools are currently undergoing a major technology initiative?  Click here for a Birmingham News story about the program.  Discussions are underway regarding exactly what pieces of the technology that were piloted will be placed in which schools at which levels.  Ask your principal for more information!

There is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Program for elementary and middle schools?  Currently, the only school system in Alabama that has the IB program at the middle school level (called the "Middle Years" program) is Decatur City Schools---they have the IB program at each of their three middle schools.  The push to have their middle schools become IB programs came from their Superintendent.  Click here for more information from the IB Organization.  Click here for more information from Decatur City Schools.
